Why should you balance your chakras?

balance, chakra, harmony

Feeling achy or stiff? Having reoccurring emotions or fears? A likely cause is that your chakras have become blocked or misaligned, which will stop your life energy from flowing harmoniously.

As chakras have a direct influence upon your emotional, physical and mental wellbeing, it becomes important to pay attention to the messages from your body to know when they need balancing.

There are seven chakras located throughout the body, and each corresponds directly to its physical placement and energy centre. If one or more of your chakras are struggling, this will cause strain to your remaining chakras as they overwork in an effort to keep your energy flowing, which can lead to further blockages.

Continue reading to learn how to located which of your chakras are blocked, and how this affects your overall sense of being.

First Chakra (Root) This chakra resides at the base of your spine, directly on your tailbone. If this chakra is balanced you should feel stable and grounded, with a strong sense of connection and safety to the physical world. When misaligned, physical imbalances are represented through issues with the feet, legs, prostate, tailbone, degenerative arthritis, constipation, knee pain and the immune system.

Emotional representation is though feelings towards basic survival needs, including money, shelter and food, as well as anxiety , restlessness and chronic disorganisation. If your first chakra is working in overdrive, this can be represented through feeling sluggish, overtired, materialistic, lazy and hoarding.

Second Chakra (Sacral) This chakra is located two inches below your navel, and when balanced is the centre for graceful movements, emotional intelligence, creativity, the ability to change and experience pleasure, the ability to nurture yourself and others. A blocked second chakra will manifest physically through problems with the urinary system, sexual disfunction, dysfunction of the reproductive organs, lack of appetite and chronic lower back pain.

Emotional imbalances include poor social skills, lack of desire, passion or excitement, fear of change and sex. An overworked second chakra will manifest through excessively strong and sensitive emotions, obsessive attachment, emotional dependancy and an extremely high libido.

Third Chakra (Solar Plexus) Located three inches above your navel, a balanced third chakra will instil feelings of tranquility and inner harmony, self acceptance and respect for nature and for others, feelings of unity, confidence and reliability. Physical problems are represented through arthritis, ulcers, colon and intestinal problems, diabetes, allergies and digestive disorders.

Emotional issues include low energy, poor self-esteem, fearful, blaming others and poor self-discipline. An overworked third chakra is shown through overly aggressive, controlling or dominating behaviour, arrogance and manipulation, stubbornness and hyperactivity.

Fourth Chakra (Heart) Based at the heart, this chakra is responsible for feelings of joy, gratitude, love, compassion, trust and forgiveness. Physical issues manifest through the lymphatic system, upper back and shoulder problems, heart and lung diseases, asthma, and arm and wrist pain.

Emotional problems include jealously, fears of abandonment, anger, bitterness, coldness, loneliness and narcissism. Excessive amounts of the heart chakra results in co-dependency, poor boundaries, overly sacrificing, possessive and overly demanding.

Fifth Chakra (Throat) This chakra is found at the throat, and symbolises expression, creativity, communication and listening. Physical problems include sore or raspy throat, mouth ulcers, gum difficulties, swollen glands, laryngitis, headaches, ear infections and neck pain.

Emotional issues are represented through a fear of speaking or small voice, shyness, poor rhythm and expression. An overextended fifth chakra leads to gossiping, over talking, inability to listen, interruptions and stuttering.

Sixth Chakra (Third Eye) Located in the centre of the forehead between the eyebrows, when balanced this chakra ensure you are perceptive, intuitive and imaginative, able to easily visualise and think symbolically. Physical dysfunctions of this chakra include nose and sinus problem, facial nerve issues, nightmares, neurological disturbances and learning disabilities.

Emotional and mental problems include poor memory and vision, insensitivity, moodiness and volatility, an inability to recognise fears and learn from others. Excessive use of the sixth chakra can lead to hallucinations, obsessions, delusions, difficulty concentrating and nightmares.

Seventh Chakra (Crown) Found at the crown of the skull, this chakra creates a sense of spiritual connection, wisdom and mastery, thoughtfulness, perception, intelligence and an open mind. Physical issues manifest through depression, migrants, amnesia, chronic exhaustion, environmental sensitivity, and an inability to learn.

Emotional dysfunctions include cynicism, greed, domination of others, confusion and rigid belief systems. An overworked seventh chakra can create a dissociation from the body, spiritual addiction and over-intellectualization.
