Byron skincare company to build world-class HQ with $460K govt funding │ Australian Manufacturing

Australian skincare and holistic wellbeing company Synthesis Organics has today announced that it has secured AUD $460,000 in funding as part of the NSW Government’s Regional Job Creation Fund to help accelerate its growth, create local jobs and support regional producers.

The funds will be used to establish a new multi-purpose company headquarters that will include a state-of-the-art lab, extraction and manufacture of essential oils, distribution, training, administration, and workshop facilities. The new premises will hold certification from Australian Certified Organic, Therapeutic Goods Administration and be Good Manufacturing Practice approved.

Synthesis Organics creates skincare and aromatherapy products using only the highest quality, ethically sourced Australian Certified Organic ingredients, clinically-proven bioactives, bioenergetic aromatherapy and energy balancing to empower radiant conscious beauty and natural healing.

Member for Ballina, Tamara Smith MP, said that the development is expected to create 23 full-time jobs within the next three years as the company scales its manufacturing capacity to meet growing domestic and international demand for its products.

“The new facility will benefit local growers and suppliers by boosting production, and the training and workshop rooms will support a significant number of new jobs, traineeships and apprenticeships for local youth, all while establishing a presence for an internationally renowned skincare brand right here in Byron Shire,” MP Smith said.

The HQ will not only service Synthesis Organics; it will also be a contract manufacturing and development hub for small scale businesses and startups who require ACO1, TGA2 and GMP3 approved facilities for small batch product development, from testing bespoke formulations right through to ongoing production contracts.

Founder of Synthesis Organics, Theme Rains, says that by offering boutique, small-batch contract manufacturing opportunities, it will empower the local community of Northern NSW producers to continue developing world-class organic products.

“We are overjoyed to be able to help advance other passionate businesses through sharing these facilities. We believe in a community-over-competition mindset by supporting what others would call our direct competitors, because of the positive implications of consumers having access to a diverse range of high quality organic, sustainably sourced and ethically made products”, said Theme.

Theme, who is the Australian Ambassador for Women’s Entrepreneurship Day celebrated globally and at the United Nations, also plans to develop an entrepreneurial hub at the site with training, mentoring, and networking services for local business owners and entrepreneurs in the natural beauty, food, health, and wellness sectors.

Development of the HQ will begin in January, with an expected opening in June 2022.

A total of four Northern NSW businesses have shared in $1.9 million of state government funding that will support the creation of up to 96 new jobs in the region. Mountain Blue Farm, Cymra Life Sciences and Cape Byron Distillery (home of Brookie’s Gin) have also been awarded the funding from the Regional Job Creation Fund to expand their operations and create new local jobs.
